Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent for NBC News two year later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was on an advisory panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss issues including the Iran Contra controversy.
